Curious George

May 29, 2006

We took Abbie to the cinema at the weekend for the first time, and saw Curious George. It was actually a nice little movie that Sheila and I enjoyed too. Abbie loved it and is now a huge Jack Johnson fan!

Birthday Boy

May 22, 2006

Today’s my birthday. Sheila kindly bought me Burnout Revenge on 360. Abbie made me a lovely card, and has been singing ‘Happy Birthday’ all weekend.

We went for a meal with some friends to Santorini’s on Saturday. Very nice it was too. Thank’s to everyone for the cards and pressies.

I’ve added some photos from Sheila’s camera phone.

Radio 1’s Big Weekend

May 15, 2006

Paul and I won tickets to Radio 1’s Big Weekend Festival in Dundee. Had a great time, the weather stayed dry and managed to see most of the bands perform. Our highlights were The Zutons headlining the ‘In New Music We Trust’ Stage and a surprise appearance from Franz Ferdinand. Click the pic to see my photos from the weekend.

GamesTM

May 2, 2006

The next issue of my favorite videogames magazine, GamesTM will feature a letter I wrote to them about Xbox Live Marketplace. I’m very chuffed as I was the first time I’d written into a magazine. The issue is out on 18 May. Here’s my letter….

This week saw Bethesda release a downloadable add-on for Oblivion. It consisted of two suits of horse armour, cost 200 Microsoft Points (£1.70) and quicky caused a backlash on the internet forums.

The idea that a developer can create and sell extra content to their games is initally appealing, and many gamers will happily pay to expand their favorite games. However what’s stopping the developer removing part of the original game (which appears to have happened here – before Oblivion was released, some screenshots showed horse armour) only to sell it at a later date? Is this just a sneaky way to increase the cost of games by charging us for stuff that should have been on the disc in the first place?

Yes these downloads are currently the videogame equivalent of a ringtone, but I fear it will not be long before a greedy developer/publisher decides to remove the last few levels of a game and sell them as extra content a week later.

Re-designed again!

May 1, 2006

I seem to redesign this website more than I update the content! However, I like to practice my web design skills with this site, and have lots of ideas to include in this new version.

For anyone interested, I have moved to a new webspace provider (Awardspace.com) which offers php/mySql compatibility so the new site takes advantage of this powerful technology.

Mayday weekend

May 1, 2006

It’s been a lovely holiday weekend. Saturday had the best of the weather and we just relaxed in the garden. On Sunday we headed to Callender Park Falkirk, which happened to be hosting Big In Falkirk, a street arts festival. They had loads to do and see, and Abbie had a ball.

Sheila took some pics on her camera phone. I’ll get them up here soon.
